Director of RCIA
Ext 13 email email@example.com
We have a new volunteer on our parish staff! Maureen Ickes comes to us after retiring as Pastoral Associate at St. Maria Goretti Parish and she will focus on our RCIA process. She is looking forward to become an integral member of our parish community.
Maureen was born and raised in San Francisco, attending St. Paul’s school. She has one sister and one brother. Widowed now, she has three daughters, eight grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. Maureen graduated from the Institute for Leadership in Ministry (ILM) through our diocese, and is close to finishing her Masters Degree in Pastoral Ministries at Santa Clara University.
For St. John Vianney Parish, Maureen will direct the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) for English speakers. RCIA is the process by which adults interested in becoming Catholic, or those who are baptized and want to receive Confirmation and/or Eucharist, and become full members of the Catholic Church, learn about what it means to be a Catholic and develop their faith working with others until they are ready to receive Baptism, Reconciliation, Eucharist, and/or Confirmation. Those to be baptized are usually initiated at the Easter Vigil, and the others complete their initiation, during the Easter season.
RCIA is the term we use for the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults. It is the process by which we welcome adults into the Roman Catholic Church.
RCIA is for
Adults who are not members of the Catholic Faith
Adults who have not received the Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist
Adults who have not received the Sacrament of Confirmation
All are welcome to come and journey alongside others who have similar questions, concerns and desires, exploring the possibility of full membership in the Roman Catholic Church.
Volunteers are needed to walk with those embarked on this journey, sharing their own faith as they go.
If you are interested in volunteering, or if you or someone you know is considering enrolling in the RCIA process, please contact Maureen Ickes at (408) 258-7832 ext 13 or email her at
